Last up on the update series is my third batch of tree seeds. This has been the slowest batch of seeds to grow in. I planted close to fifty pine trees, two hundred tiny Sacred Fig trees, and fifty mystery seeds. As these seeds have started to grow in, I have realized that I have more than one type of mystery seed. Various trees are appearing in each soil plot that shouldn’t belong there so this batch is getting pretty interesting.

Mystery Ficus

My mystery ficus has continued to grow steadily. If you look closely, you can see new leaves starting to form at the center of the stem. This tree hasn’t grown in height, however, it has begun to develop additional leaves. Besides the new set of leaves beginning to form, not much has changed on this tree. I still have no idea what it is. It sort of looks like a Podocarpus tree but I cannot be completely sure. Ideally, it will be a species that I do not currently have.

Sacred Fig

This batch contains roughly two hundred of the extremely small Sacred Fig trees. Unlike the second batch, the Sacred Fig seedlings in this batch have been very slow to germinate. So far, only two have sprouted. Additionally, one of these two seedlings looks very sickly and has malformed leaves. It is surprising that this batch is growing in wildly different than the previous batch. I am going to continue watering these and hope for the best.

Mystery Trees

The two newest seeds to germinate are once again, complete mysteries. One of these seedlings is still attempting to break through the soil line. Part of its stem has breached the top of the soil, however, the rest of the plant is still in the dirt. Within a few days, I expect the rest of the plant to rise above the soil and begin to grow. The second of these seedlings has grown in a plot of soil marked as a Pine tree. It’s most likely that this will end up being a pine tree, however, my mystery ficus was supposed to be a Sacred Fig so you never really know.

The biggest mystery about these two seedlings is that neither of them sprouted from one of my actual mystery seeds. Zero of the unknown red seeds have germinated yet somehow I have three mystery trees growing.

Considerations

This batch of seeds was, by far, the slowest to develop. Despite that, seedlings have started to appear one by one. I guess that this batch is just taking longer to grow in than the other two batches. Additionally, just like the other batches, I plan to let these trees grow freely without any interruption. Stay tuned for more posts about all my tree seeds!
